Cherry Hinton Hall c.1979

Cherry Hinton Hall c.1979. Michelle Bullivant playing on the play park in the grounds of Cherry Hinton Hall.

The play park has changed many times since I was little but is still in the same area of the Hall. I never knew that I'd grow up to become the official historian for Cherry Hinton Hall!

We moved to Almoners Avenue in 1971, when I was 4 ... and then to Great Shelford in 1973 when I was 6.

During the time we lived in Almoners Avenue I attended Homerton Nursery School and then Queen Edith's Infant School, and I remember going to a big event in the grounds of Cherry Hinton Hall.

My abiding memories are that there was a clay pigeon shoot (I was most disappointed that my father didn't have a go ... I'm sure my uncle would have, though, if he was there as he was for several years on the Australian skeet shooting team ... ) and a man walking around in the costume of a cyber man (from Dr Who).

I cannot recall anyting further about the event and what was there ... but to my 4 or 5 year old eyes, the crowd seemed enormous.

I've a vague idea it might have been described as a "happening", as I remember my parents discussing what the difference was between a "happening" and an "event" ... but I may be confusing this memory with something else there.

Anyway ... there it is ... a fleeting and fragmentary memory from the early 1970s, and I offer it for what it is worth.
